What You Need To Build Your Website
OK. We have now identified what makes a good website design. W era now going to put together a short guide as to the tools you will need.
Of course, you will need a computer. Before you all shout, “how am I reading this if I do not have one?”, let me point point out that many of my visitors share a PC or indeed use one at work or in a library. So, for those who have not yet got a computer at home. Here is a retailer who has become one of the most popular in recent years. You may have heard of them…Dell. They produce machines to suit all budgets.
Your Will Need A Computer
Some basic buying points include memory size, processor speed, monitor performance and of course, how good is the graphics card.
If you are looking to design or develop your own website then here are some minimum specifications I would recommend.
- Processor. Look for a Dual Core of 2.13ghz or higher
- RAM (memory). Ideally look for 2gb or higher
- Hard Drive. I would look for a machine that offers 160gb or more
- Desktop Price. Expect to pay around £400-£500 for a good machine
- Laptop Price. These come slightly higher for good spec but you can still get good ones for around £500
- Warranty Options. Look for suppliers that offer 1 to 3 years warranty included in the price
- Monitors. Look for a monitor of 19″ TFT or larger. Trust me, it is worth it.
If you need assistance when choosing a machine, feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help you where I can.
Software Your May Need
And the final piece of the jigsaw is the software to design your brand new site. I am very fond of Adobe’s Dreamweaver (current version CS4) as it offers a multitude of poerful features that are unrivalled.
Point to note: In my up and coming step by step guide to building a website, althougg I will be using standard HTML/CSS, it will be showcased in Dreamweaver.
As you can see below there is a huge range to choose from, all at great prices.
