 Theoretically, the PS3 is more powerful than the Xbox 360 but, for the moment, this isn’t quite the case in reality. Some games that run on both consoles don’t make full use of the PS3’s capabilities, and therefore can look worse on Sony’s machine. However, this is changing, and while the games selection is not as strong as the Xbox 360’s, it’s growing fast.

The latest Final Fantasy role-playing game due out in 2009 is hotly anticipated by PS3 fans. Until then, games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, TV quiz show game Buzz!, and karaoke game Singstar should keep everyone happy.

PlayStation 3’s Blu-ray advantage

The PS3’s killer feature is that it also plays Blu-ray discs, which means it doubles up as an HD movie player. And there are plans to add Freeview TV recording and playback later this year as an option.

The console’s online gaming features are free, though they’re not yet as sophisticated or well set-up as those on the Xbox 360. But Sony is dealing with this, and a new feature called Home is designed to set you up with a 3D online persona and a virtual world to hang out in.

The PS3 is the most expensive machine, but with its Blu-ray capabilities it could be a good investment.
